Managing, controlling, reporting, delivering test results immediately and straight to your process
where they are needed.
Universal Testing Machines
Tinius Olsen is the leading specialist manufacturer and supplier of static tension and/or compression
materials testing machines. Our machines are designed for use in research departments and quality
control departments to measure the strength and product performance of materials. Using Tinius
Olsen equipment it is possible to perform such tests on raw materials such as metals, polymers,
textiles, rubbers, adhesives and food as well as finished components.
A whole series of tests is available including procedures for tensile strength, shear strength,
compressive strength, flexural strength, puncture and burst resistance, tear strength, peel strength,
melt flow, Charpy and Izod impact strength, coefficients of friction, stiffness, deflection temperature
under load determination, Vicat penetration and torsional strength. All of the tests are designed and
implemented by Tinius Olsen in accordance with key international testing standards including ISO,
ASTM, EN and other industrial standards.

Melt Flow Indexers
Tinius Olsen is proud to introduce our latest evolution of melt indexer to meet almost every need.
This new model, the Mp1500 & MP1200, meets, and surpasses, all the requirements of Procedure A
and Procedures B, C and D of ASTM D1238.
The latest addition to the Tinius Olsen polymer testing line is the MP1500 Melt Flow Indexer. The
tester features the latest in melt flow measurement technology where load is applied by a loadcell
via a drive system with a PID control feedback, there are no dead weights. This robust design
incorporates quality materials and components and ensures that our reputation for superior system
performance, ease of use, and longevity is maintained. The MP1500 becomes a complete powerful
test system with the addition of Tinius Olsen’s Horizon Data Analysis software.
The MP1200 is a superior, advanced, melt indexing system that is available in either manual or
motorized configurations and features a new three-zone band heater with three controllers that
result in unparalleled temperature control of the furnace. When combined with the simple, menu-
driven, touchscreen control you’ll agree that the MP1200 is in a league of its own.
Pendulum Impact Testers
Tinius Olsen manufactures several high capacity pendulum impact testers, most of which can be
easily changed from a Charpy to an Izod configuration or even to a tensile impact configuration.
These testers come in several capacities and are designed primarily for determining the impact
resistance of metals. They are designed to fully comply with the specifications outlined in ASTM E23,
BS EN ISO 148-3, BS EN ISO 148-2 and ISO 442.
In addition to the high energy impact models, Tinius Olsen manufactures a range of low energy
pendulum impact testers that can also be easily changed from a Charpy to an Izod configuration.
These testers come in a couple of capacities and are designed primarily for either plastics or metals
impact testing.
All testing hardware is fully complemented by Tinius Olsen-developed software that turns your
hardware into a sophisticated quality analysis system. Be sure to examine the software products to
determine which package is right for your application.
Indentation Hardness Testers
Tinius Olsen’s Evotech series offers many types of hardness testing systems that can rapidly and
accurately determine the hardness value of a wide variety of materials including metals and alloys,
large parts and small precision parts. Whether you need bench-mounted testers, large scale floor-
standing systems or dedicated systems that are integrated into your production lines, we can help
you with your application.
All hardness testing systems feature the latest designs, hardware and firmware to ensure all testers
are fast, accurate and demonstrate some of the best gage repeatability and reproducibility data in
the industry along with excellent accuracies and resolutions.
Extensometers
Extensometers measure strain, the change in length of a specimen divided by the original length
(gauge length) of the specimen. Tinius Olsen offers wide range of extensometers based on your
testing needs including video, optical and physical contact with specimen.
Grips and Accessories
Tinius Olsen offers a wide range of attachments to support all your testing needs. The grips and
attachments are designed to hold your specimen, which are subject to testing, however fragile or
rigid that may be. Below are some of the most common attachments based on the required test-
types. If you cannot see yours, please use the 'Get in touch' tab to send us your enquiry and we will
get back to you.
Software
Tinius Olsen provides software to meet your R&D and quality control needs, working simply,
efficiently and accurately. Horizon makes all your testing as effortless as it should be. It carries out
your testing and seamlessly integrates with your processes. VSS works with Horizon to control your
video extensometer testing.
